Eh, so quite a few weeks back I went for the Hornthrone gig for Daarchlea's album launch, with a few supporting bands. Awesome! However, the venue is bloody hell hard to find. It's seriously in the middle of nowhere, not in the main compound. It's like... in between the inner compound's wall and the outer wall, a small narrow space with some shoplots. Seriously. I don't know why that exists. But it's a hell of a venue and the bands that played were great. I attended to write a review on Audiocancer, a review blog Terence revived recently, and asked me to join.
A week or two back I accompanied Andrew to get his car was I was his guarantor and I needed to sign a bunch of papers for his Ford Focus. First time being a guarantor. Hope that doesn't screw me in the ass if he can't take care of his payments.
Speaking of payments, I bought my new laptop two weeks back! It's the first laptop I've ever paid for in my life in full. My old laptop was dying anyway, being 7 years old, having outdated specs, a malfunctioning USB port that would disconnect randomly and the fan that didn't work, meaning it'd overheat if the laptop remained on for longer than half an hour. My new Asus A555L is pretty neat, at RM2399 with 8GB RAM and 2.7GHz i5 processor. It's very smooth and fast (and super quiet!), and it's satisfying to buy your own toys. I've finally been able to transfer all my files and arrange everything neat and in order. Properly filing files that were thrown all over on thumbdrives, the old laptop and harddisks. Also, it can play my games smooth and in high quality. Yes! Enjoying them as I should have. I saved up so much, so easily after breaking up with Sharon, that I could buy a laptop within 2 months. Meanwhile, she continues to borrow money from me and can't manage her finances. But more on that when I finish my blog post about our relationship.
Last Friday I went down to chill with Symposium at Ming Tien. Hann and his girlfriend, Aisyah came down to join us too. With no occasion, we drank cheap whiskey while chatting about stuff in general. How the conversation evolved was hilarious. We were chatting about games and gamers, and Justin commented that he never saw the appeal in creating a female character in games, to which most of us gave various answers like "they'd rather stare at a girl for hours", they get freebies and that sort of stuff. Redzuan mentioned he knew two people who simply liked the fact that they played as females and got off on that. I agreed, that people could simply just enjoy something by itself, without some concrete reason. Justin disagreed, saying that there had be a source of why they like it, arguing that people don't like something because they like something, to which I argued against. We came to a consensus of sorts, that they liked being a female and got a shot of dopamine in their brain, which satisfied Justin as the reason they enjoyed it while I said dopamine for pleasure as a result of liking something is more or less a given, and Hann said that falls into another argument of "what causes the dopamine shot then?" Somehow, that led into the psychology and mindset of people, which led to a discussion on morality, which, no surprise, ended up in a discussion on God as well. At this point, James, Andrew and Redzuan no longer contributed to the topic at hand, or went home, while the rest of us continued debating. It was amusing, as Hann is a highly educated, staunch atheist, and I'm a devout Christian, yet we've read a lot of the same material and are very familiar with lots of philosophical concepts and arguments from prominent philosophers, and we share a hell lot of ideas and notions, while coming out on opposite sides of the spectrum. Justin's an agnostic deist, and Aisyah is a Muslim. Four people, with very diverse opinions and beliefs, it was a hell of a conversation, from Freud, Kant, Dawkins, Plantinga and Spinoza and so much more. I was there at 11pm. Hann and Aisyah arrived around half past midnight. We talked and debated until 6:30am. Bloody hell, one very interesting conversation. This isn't the first time a fantastically stimulating conversation has led us to talk and debate until sunrise, and we've come to expect and enjoy it at times, but it has been a while.
I went to church on Sunday, where Pastor Andrew Gray preached. As most of the cellgroup members came on Saturday, it was only Faith, Angelica and I from the cellgroup that morning. Normally I borrow the car and drop my mom off to the association she works with and drive to church, have lunch and then pick her up but she had a lunch banquet, so she needed to drop me off at church and use the car. As I didn't want to risk getting stranded by the cellgroup again, I brought my laptop along so I could use it in the church cafe to wait for my mom to pick me up. While I was waiting, surprise, surprise, Adele waved at me and sat at my table. It has been many years since we last chatted properly. A few hi's and bye's over the last few years but nothing substantial. We caught up on each other's lives, updating about work, school and the like. We also shared about our relationship issues, and it was interesting to find out about her lack of having a boyfriend her entire life, along with the stories behind some of them. We chatted for a few hours while she was waiting for some other members to go somewhere, so it was a really good time to talk after such a long time.
